In order to determine whether recruiting activities are worthwhile and producing results, it is imperative that the resulting candidates are identified.

Asking candidates how they heard of the job they are applying for is the least accurate way to determine whether your recruiting sources are effective. Candidates are not motivated to put a lot of thought into selecting their source from a provided list and often the list isn’t comprehensive.

Although it has become an important source of candidates, recruiting is not carried out exclusively on internet job boards. Print advertising is still utilized by many organizations. Some recruiters will spend their time seeking out special interest groups, both online and offline, where they can get a message out to potential candidates…from the discussion forum of a website on video games to the bulletin board at a local apartment complex.
